Our World, simply the World
The world we find our characters is an extremely large and complex one. There are many different types of climates and terrain in the world just as there are many different types of humanoid species that inhabit them.
“Deities” or “Gods” are well known to be vying for the attention of “lower beings” like humanoids but will indeed respond with assistance and favours. But how “religious” each empire, kingdom, town, etc is differs greatly. Magic is well known to exist in the world and will rarely surprise anyone (Psionics on the other hand is a completely different and far more alien story).
Creatures of Myth such as Dragons are largely believed to really exist but it’s very hard to find someone who has ever seen one. People are generally friendly but there’s always a palpable level of racism permeating the world. The old races tend to cling to tradition often believing their race to be the wiser and experienced while young races such as humans are driven by their ambition. As a young race, humans are by far the more diverse and some say have strived to bring down barriers between the older races but even the humans tend to respond to their gut instincts to dislike demonic looking creatures.
People of the World tend to stay in one place. They usually leave the travel up to Adventurers and Caravans since outside the protection of their towns, the wilderness can be a dangerous place from beasts to bandits and possibly much worse.
Our Kingdom
Our team finds themselves based in the town of Ohté in the Majestically Exalted Kingdom of the Exceedingly Righteous Cobalt Flame (which to be honest is not the smartest sounding of Kingdom names so people just refer the kingdom as “Cobalt“). This kingdom is a predominantly forested wilderness kingdom with a few larger cities and a number of towns and villages. While known to be a militarily competent kingdom, it accepts trade, commerce, and negotiation as the typically best approach to Foreign Affairs. As such, citizens or not have free travel in and out of their kingdom.
The Kingdom’s territory borders that of several other forested wilderness Kingdoms, all with well defined borders and a level of codependence to keep their economies flowing (and maximizing the wealth of the ruling class in all those kingdoms).
Ohté
The town of Ohté was primarily a mining and agricultural town consisting of three major sections: (1) The walled and heavily guarded by Royal soldiers: the Agricultural Zone (2) The also-Royally-well-defended mining and residential areas below the surface: the Underground (3) The above ground area for commerce and recreation: the Surface. Incidentally, the Surface has a local Militia that handles the defence, Adventurer management, etc.
Adventurers are restricted to the Surface and have been warned several times that the Royal Soldiers are not “the lovable cheerful ever-so-helpful not-squandering taxes defenders that” the local Militia are.
